Principals' Message Winter MAP Testing Information Every year, all students at Central Middle School complete the NWEA MAP Test. All students will take the reading, science, and math MAP test. If possible, please avoid scheduling appointments or vacations during testing days. Students who miss any of the assessments will have to make it up at a to be determined later date. Here are the testing dates: - 6th Grade Math - December 10
- 7th Grade Math - December 11
- 8th Grade Reading - December 5
- 8th Grade Math - December 11, and 13, in Math Core Classes
- 8th Grade Science - January (dates to be determined)
Yearbooks Yearbook order forms were handed out to students last week and are due December 20. The cost this year is $30, and $36 for a personalized book. You can order by returning the form to the front office with payment, or order directly from Jostens. Yearbooks are not available through EPay. Athletics Winter II: January 13 - March 6 All athletics practice Monday-Friday, 4:10-5:20 p.m. Winter I Intramural Activities - Art Club Session 2, begins Tuesday, December 10.

Spelling Bee 2020 Open to grades 6-8. Limited to 30 participants. Written test to qualify for the Spelling Bee will take place first period on January 3. Top ten from the pretest will proceed. Register by emailing Nichole.Osterholt@wayzataschools.org by December 20. Activity Late Bus Late activity bus transportation is available Monday-Thursday and leaves at 5:30 p.m. A list of stops is available in the front office, or on the school website. Please note the bus stop nearest to your home for these routes may not be the same stop as your student's regular route. Review the routes and discuss with your student. Bus drivers cannot stop at individual homes. Ski and Snowboard Club Ski and Snowboard Club is offered through the City of Plymouth Parks and Recreation, and open to Wayzata middle school students. A parent/student meeting is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., December 5 at the Plymouth Creek Center. Next PTA Meeting The next PTA meeting is Tuesday, January 14 at 11:30 a.m. Please consider joining and contributing to the PTA. This is a great way to be updated on what is happening at CMS. Membership does not commit you to volunteering but we are always in need of help! The PTA Step It Up Parent Volunteers Needed Thank you for your support during our fundraiser! The grand finale is Friday, December 6 – the moment the students have waited for. We still need parent volunteers in 7th and 8th grade to make celebrations successful. Wayzata Education Fund's Thank a Teacher Program We have a lot of amazing teachers and staff here at Wayzata Public Schools. What better way to show them you appreciate them by giving back to our schools? From November 21 to December 17, any donation through Wayzata Education Fund's Thank A Teacher program will come with a certificate of appreciation to that teacher or staff member from the student named in the donation. As a bonus, any donation of $25 or more also comes with a bundlet from Nothing Bundt Cakes-Minnetonka, our generous partner in this program. Say thank you and support a good cause all in one! November 2019 Wayzata Legislative Action Committee (LAC) Meeting Update The Wayzata LAC met Wednesday, November 13. Jim Westrum, executive director of finance and business, presented an update on finances for Wayzata Public Schools. During the 2019 Legislative Session, an additional 2% was added to the general formula for 2019-2020 and 2020-2021. In addition, WPS will also receive an additional $400,000 in one-time safe schools aid. Wayzata Public Schools' LAC is a non-partisan group of citizens that monitors legislative activity as it affects K-12 education and advocates positions on behalf of the district. Upcoming Events: Young Scientist Roundtable: New Treatments for Spinal Cord Injuries - Spinal cord injury is devastating. There are many exciting advancements being made in the treatment of spinal cord injuries. Current thinking is that there is not one single cure, but likely a combination of potential therapies that can be used. Dr. Ann Parr, Board Certified Neurosurgeon and faculty member in the Graduate Program in Neuroscience and the Stem Cell Institute, will share how her laboratory is using a combination of stem cells, scaffolding and electrical stimulation as potential therapies.
