A Message from Mr. Fredrickson Dear Families,
We just hit the 50th day of school last Friday. It's hard to imagine that we are nearly a third of the way through the school year.
One of the bigger lifts we are doing this year in Wayzata elementary schools is the implementation of our new reading program, Center for the Collaborative Classroom, or as we call it CCC.
Center for the Collaborative Classroom envisions a learning environment in which social and emotional learning is an intrinsic part of reading instruction. CCC was developed as a comprehensive, research-based program which encompasses all the components, strategies, and skills traditionally taught in language arts. Additionally, CCC integrates social development into the program as learning is often a social endeavor and a healthy classroom is a more effective classroom.
One way parents can support our work with reading is through what CCC calls "Individualized Daily Reading." They offer this document as a way for parents to support your child's reading life at home. The document will also help you understand what we are doing in our classrooms.
As always, please reach out with any questions or comments about your child's learning.
Warmly,
Mr. Fredrickson

Engaging Community Survey Please help us by filling out this engagement survey (it takes less than a minute)! Why? We want to understand what is important and interesting to our Birchview Community. Identifying information is not tracked and it is completely confidential, so you can be completely honest. We want to know if there is interest in helping in and around the school, what times are convenient for our families, and what types of community events get people the most excited. We even want to know if families can't be involved right now. Having a pulse of the community we serve is one of the best ways we can tailor opportunities to support you and your family!
