Dear Freshmen and New-to-Wayzata Students, Parents and Guardians:
Your Wayzata Link Crew is looking forward to meeting you at the Freshmen and New-to-Wayzata Student Orientation on Thursday, August 29! We have a fun-filled and educational orientation day planned that will welcome you to WHS with a sense of safety in a high-spirited, all-inclusive, anti-bullying environment. This is our school, and we want you to feel welcome and experience Trojan Pride!
During the week of August 26, you will be personally invited to attend Orientation by a junior or senior Link Leader who will spend Orientation with you and mentor you throughout your first year of high school. On the day of Orientation, your bus will pick you up at your assigned destination and time. If you have not received this information by early next week, please contact WPS Transportation at 763-745-5195.
Orientation includes:
- A spirited and interactive opening assembly led by a trained WHS Link Crew Coordinator.
- A mentor group experience led by trained student Link Leaders.
- A school tour led by trained Link Leaders.
- A thoughtful, inspiring closing assembly led by a trained WHS Link Crew Coordinator.
After Orientation, you will be equipped with information and strategies that will help you be successful in high school, the knowledge that the Link Leaders and the school care about you, and a sea of familiar faces to look forward to on your first day of school. As a result of these first day efforts, you will experience more success and a bully-free environment.
Throughout the school year, you will also meet with your Link Leaders and your Link Crew groups once a month during MyTime on Wednesdays. As a school, we value this time as it builds a stronger sense of community by making a large school feel smaller, and it provides an opportunity to gain different perspectives and experiences from multiple students during trained Link Leader-led activities. This time is dedicated to help develop thinking, learning, and communication strategies in everyday situations with students near your age so that you can have candid conversations about how to navigate and make the most of your high school experience.
On April 22, all freshmen will participate in the Youth Frontiers Respect Retreat. During the Respect Retreat, freshmen will be engaged by Youth Frontiers adult leaders who will deliver a high-energy large group presentation paired with small group discussions around the theme of respect. The Respect Retreat will:
- Help students realize they matter, others matter, and what they do matters
- Understand that disrespectful behavior is harmful
- Encourage bystanders to stand up for respect
- Identify ways students can cultivate a climate and culture of respect throughout their time together at WHS
There is a $10 fee for the Respect Retreat. This payment goes towards Youth Frontiers. Payments can be made via EPay. Scholarships are available upon request.
Your Link Leaders are looking forward to making your first year at Wayzata High School a memorable experience that helps you carve out your identity and path towards the future. Your Link Leaders are always here for you!
See you at Orientation!
