Honors Mentor Connection Jump Start Class, June 2019 Dear Future Honors Mentor Connection Student,
Congratulations again on your acceptance into Honors Mentor Connection (HMC)! We're so excited to start this journey with you!
Often, it is helpful to jump start the process of securing a mentor. For this reason, we are offering three days this summer to learn how to do this. The Jump Start class includes the following themes:
Our goal is to provide you with the framework needed to secure a mentor. It is not required to complete this process over the summer, but many students find value in devoting time to this early. There is no fee for attending the class. Date: June 17-19 Time: 8:00-11:00 a.m. Room: A440 at Wayzata High School
Description of Honors Mentor Connection Honors Mentor Connection is a class where each student selects their unique area of study from the broad fields of the Arts, Sciences, and Social Sciences. Any topic of academic rigor can be pursued through Honors Mentor Connection. Students will define a problem as it occurs within the community, investigate an academic or vocational setting currently addressing that issue, and ultimately refine their focus to pursue their topic in great depth with an expert as their guide and the professional setting as their environment. Through academic immersion in a professional environment eight to ten hours a week, these highly focused students grow personally, academically, and professionally. Students celebrate their accomplishments and their mentors in the spring when they showcase their major project at the Scholars' Forum.
In addition to this immersive experience, the HMC seminar provides academic and peer support for the students throughout the school year. Students will meet weekly with their HMC Instructors and participate in a variety of seminars that are designed to develop the students' abilities to succeed in these professional environments.
Sincerely,
Honors Mentor Connection Course Instructors |
