Spring MCA Testing – 8th Grade Science We will be having final testing for the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCA) on Thursday, May 2.
Students will be testing on their iPads, so it is important that they come to school with their iPads fully charged with a set of head phones or ear buds. On the days of testing we encourage students to leave other electronic devices at home including cell phones and smart watches. The only electronic device allowed in the testing rooms is their iPad. If students do bring such devices, they will need to store them in their locker prior to entering the testing room. Good sleep and a healthy breakfast will be helpful for your student on testing days. When possible, please refrain from making appointments outside of school when testing is scheduled. If you have any questions regarding testing, please contact Rob Rimington at 763-745-6031 or Rob.Rimington@wayzataschools.org.
Did You Know? Media Center Renovations Begin May 10 Our media center will be closing for renovations on May 10. Please have your students return as many books as possible by May 10. Students may continue to read eBooks and audio books all summer by using the MackinVIA app. Students can log into the app by choosing "Wayzata Central" as the school and typing in their username and password. Students may keep their math textbooks and other required materials until June. Thank you again to all of our parent volunteers! We appreciate all the time you spend to make the CMS media center such a wonderful place.
17th Annual Cross Country Race – Wednesday, May 22 The 4th-6th grade cross country meet (approximately 3/4 mile/1200 M run) will be Wednesday May 22 (rain date is May 23) at the Central Middle School fields on the west side of the building. This is sponsored by Wayzata middle schools and Wayzata High School boys' and girls' cross country teams and coaches.
Computer Programming Opportunity for 6th and 7th Grade Girls The girls only computing camp is back by popular demand! Wayzata High School will be offering this week-long girls only summer camp for 6th and 7th graders June 17-21, 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Girls will learn programming concepts through Scratch software. They will have fun designing their own games and storyboards and will meet successful female role models in computing and technology who will discuss their stories and opportunities in this field. Sponsored by a grant from the National Center for Women and Information Technology, the entire week costs only $30! Limited spots are available on a first come, first served basis. Email wayzataggit@gmail.com with questions.
Reminders Attendance Students need a blue pass to be dismissed early from any class. Passes can be obtained from the front office after a parent or guardian has called, sent a note, or entered the request in Skyward Family Access. Unlike the elementary schools, middle school students are moving from class to class throughout the day. Calling into the classroom is not always realistic. It is best to have all communication done before the student's lunch time so the student has reasonable time to pick up/receive their pass. Planning ahead is appreciated by teachers and office staff to avoid class interruptions.
Athletics Spring sports are primarily held outside; please dress for our ever changing Minnesota weather. Schedules for athletics can be found on our website.
PTA News Next PTA Meeting – May 21 The next PTA meeting is Tuesday, May 21 from 11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Our guest speaker, Ali Wobschall, Director of Partners in Prevention, will present on an important topic that is trending among teens today – vaping. In October 2018, the Minnesota Department of Health issued a serious health advisory regarding this trend, because for the first time in nearly 18 years youth tobacco rates rose. Vaping is the inhaling and exhaling of an aerosol produced by using a vape device or electronic cigarette. Learn more about vaping and what Wayzata Public Schools is doing to deal this issue.
Volunteer Needs The PTA Needs You Now Since many of our current parents on the PTA are moving on to the high school next fall, we are looking to fill many open upcoming PTA positions now to make the transition to next fall as smooth as possible. Please consider helping us fill these positions if you can. With your help, together we can make a difference.
