Dear Wayzata High School Class of 2021,
We are a little over three weeks away from your 2021 graduation ceremony! The purpose of this letter is to provide you with important information to help you and your family successfully prepare for a seamless end to the school year.
Academics As a friendly reminder, all Class of 2021 graduates must earn 60 credits to receive their diploma. Wayzata High School staff is here to support you through these final weeks of your high school career. You are encouraged to stay strong, focused, and engaged with your coursework through the end of the year. Reach out to your teachers and/or any member of your student support team if you have concerns. We're here for you!
Graduation As a result of the new Executive Order that takes effect on May 28, we will no longer need to have two separate ceremonies or limit our attendance. As such, we will return to our original plan and schedule for one graduation ceremony held in 3M Arena at Mariucci on Friday, June 4, at 6:30 p.m. All graduates and guests will be expected to wear a mask throughout the entire ceremony and while inside the arena. CCX will also be streaming the event live. Students who are unable to attend will be offered an opportunity to receive their diploma this summer, here at Wayzata High School. Further details specific to commencement will be sent in the coming days.
Graduation Rehearsal All Class of 2021 graduates will be expected to attend a graduation rehearsal, which will be held on Thursday, June 3 at 11:20 a.m. (immediately following 2nd block) in the high school main gymnasium. Students will be released from school following the rehearsal. There will be no school for seniors on Friday, June 4.
"Senior Walk" over the Peony Lane bridge Some members of the senior class will be reinstating the long-treasured tradition of our seniors walking over the bridge on their last day (Thursday, June 3). Although the school doesn't officially sponsor or coordinate this event, seniors who participate are encouraged to start the senior walk by 7:45 a.m., so you are in your first block class by 8:15 a.m. Also, it is important that all students stay on the sidewalk. Keep in mind, Peony Lane is not the same road it was when this tradition started many years ago; your safety is our top priority.
Elementary School Walk Each graduate is invited to return to their WPS elementary school in their cap and gown on Thursday, June 3, at 1:30 p.m. for an outdoor celebration and to inspire our future graduates. More information specific to this event will be sent to students in the coming days.
Yearbook A "Senior Yearbook Signing Party" will be held on Wednesday, June 2, from 3:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. in WHS Gym 9. You are welcome to pick up or buy a yearbook during this event or on Thursday, June 3, after graduation practice.
Senior iPad and Curriculum Material Return Graduates are expected to return their iPad, charging cable, charging block, and all curriculum items (textbooks, etc.) on one of the following dates:
Please read the iPad Return Process for specific directions on how to back up your iPad and have it ready to return.
Rock the Block Senior Party The Rock the Block Senior Party will be held on Saturday, June 5, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Wayzata High School bus lot. There will be fair food, games, a hypnotist and more! To sign up and purchase tickets, please visit: https://www.wayzataseniorparty.com/registration-form. You can also visit the Senior Party website for more information. In Closing It is important to remember that these events are all pending the state COVID-19 health and safety protocols and guidelines at that time. As such, it becomes incredibly important that our students and their families are making responsible decisions. Anyone with COVID-19 symptoms, pending test results or currently a "close contact" in a school-required quarantine will not be able to attend these events. Please do your best to support good decision-making so we can all experience these milestone events together.
I wish you all a safe and successful end-of-year.
