The mission of Wayzata Public Schools is to ensure a world-class education that prepares each and every student to thrive today and excel tomorrow in an ever-changing global society. Each day, the district’s Reserve Teachers serve an important role in the successful execution of this mission.

What is a reserve teacher?

Our Reserve Teachers create an encouraging learning environment for our students while their regular teacher is absent, effectively managing and instructing the class from roll call through the end of the school day.

Some responsibilities include:

  • Follow lesson plans provided by the regular teacher to create a cohesive and consistent learning experience for students
  • Manage the classroom effectively to encourage student participation, minimize distractions and maintain a positive learning environment

Types of reserve teachers

Short-Call Reserve Teachers
Short-Call Reserve Teachers can hold any teaching license. Our Short-Call Reserve Teachers work a completely flexible schedule. As a Short-Call Reserve Teacher you can log into the Frontline absence management system to view and accept assignments whenever it works for your schedule.

Direct Reserve Teachers
Direct Reserve Teachers can hold any teaching license. Direct Reserve Teachers or Building substitutes are full-time staff members of Wayzata Public Schools. They are assigned to a specific building and contracted to work all days that students are on site. These positions are benefit-eligible and offer paid sick days.

Long-Term Reserve Teachers
These positions require teachers to hold a license in the content area they are teaching. Our Long-Term reserve teachers will cover a specific classroom when a teacher goes out on a long-term leave of absence. They are responsible for all aspects of teaching a regular classroom.
