Middle School
We are intentional about how technology is used at the middle school level.
Device distribution by grade
- 6th grade: iPads are handed out during the first week of school.
- 7th grade: iPads are handed out in mid-August.
- 8th grade: Students have devices through the summer.
Device at-home internet access by grade
- 6th grade: iPads will not be able to connect to the internet outside of school. Homework will not require iPads.
- 7th grade: Internet access ends at 8 p.m.
- 8th grade: Internet access ends at 9 p.m.
Key district shifts
- Device restrictions: Devices now feature strict filters and only district-approved apps.
- Paper-based learning: Classrooms will use more paper assignments to build reading and writing skills.
- Digital literacy: Students will learn healthy device habits during the school day.
What's next for families?
- Resources: Families will receive resources from the district and from schools to partner with us in this work, and tips on how to manage technology use at home.
- Feedback: We will proactively get feedback from families throughout the school year.
