Overview

We check our student's hearing and vision to help them learn their best at school.

School health staff automatically do the following exams.

  • Color vision exams for males only in kindergarten.
  • General hearing and vision exams for all students in grade 1, 3, 5 and 7.

We also schedule an screening if a teacher or parent requests it.

Early childhood screening

Early Learning School staff give general hearing and vision exams to:

  • 3- and 4-year olds who come for an early childhood screening

Exam results

If we determine your child may have a vision or hearing issue, we do a second exam. If we get the same result, we:

  • Contact the family.
  • Recommend next steps.

Questions and choices

Contact your school's health office if:

  • You have concerns about your child's vision or hearing.
  • If you do not want your child to take part in automatic screenings.
