Educational Benefits

Thanks to the Minnesota Free School Meals bill, all students in Kindergarten through 12th Grade and Transition School get one free breakfast and one free lunch.

Preschool students are not part of the Minnesota Free School Meals program. Therefore, there will be charges for preschool meals, regardless of educational benefits applications.  

• Preschool Breakfast: $2.30  
• Preschool Lunch: $4.45

Completing the Application for Educational Benefits may qualify your student(s) for extra discounts and support. This application opens doors to benefits like:  

• Reduced fees for school photography packages  
• Possible summer food support (SUN Bucks/Summer Electronic Benefit Transfer)  
• Lower district activity fees  
• Reduced internet fees  
• Lower fees for local zoos and museums  
• Discounted cell phone rates

• Children in households participating in:  
  • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)  
  • Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP)  
  • Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR)
• Foster, homeless, migrant, and runaway children can qualify without reporting household income.  
• Households with income within the maximum limit for their size, as shown in the application instructions.  
• If you received a letter or email in July stating your household qualifies for the upcoming school year, you don’t need to apply again.

• Complete the online application for educational benefits. You must submit a new application each year unless you’ve been notified that you qualify.
