Special Education Services by Age

Early Childhood Special Education services:

• Help young children grow and develop during their early years.
• Improve their long-term success.

We partner with families

Our district partners with families to provide early intervention support and services.

• The children must:
  •  Be at-risk for developmental delays or disabilities, and
  • Qualify for services.
• Families are not required to accept services.
• There is no cost to families.

When you accept services

If your child qualifies for services and you accept them:

• You're paired with an early intervention coach.
• We provide services in places that are familiar with people your child knows, such as:
  • Your home
  • Child care settings
  • Other places in your community
• You will learn strategies to support your child in the time between our visits.

Our district offers free Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) services to:

• Students who qualify 
• At our Early Learning School and throughout the community

Our team

Our team includes:

• Early childhood special education teachers
• Speech pathologists
• Occupational and physical therapists

We involve other providers as needed. 

Eligible K-12 students with disabilities have a right to a public education that is:

• Free
• Appropriate
• Meets their individual needs 

Who we serve

Our district works with teachers and families in all our schools to:

• Create and follow Individual Education Programs (IEPs)
• Check progress and make changes when needed
• Follow the law and best practices

We also work with private schools within our district to provide IEPs.

Federal settings

• Our schools serve students in federal settings 1 to 3.
• We partner with Intermediate District 287 to serve setting 4 students.

Our district runs a transition school for 18- to 22-year-olds who qualify. 

About the Transition School

• We help students transition from high school to adulthood by teaching:
  • Independent living skills
  • Employment skills
  • Post-secondary education skills
• We tailor education and training to meet individual needs and goals.
• Learning takes place at the Wayzata Transition school and job sites throughout the community.
