Multilingual Learners

We teach English language skills in a supportive and welcoming environment.

Overview

We value the many languages spoken by our students and their families. We also know that English language skills are critical for academic success.

All of our schools offer multilingual learning services to  help students develop academic English language skills in:

  • Listening
  • Speaking
  • Reading
  • Writing

Students receive multilingual learning and other support services during the school day.

Steps to qualify

You will complete the Minnesota Home Language Survey when you enroll.

If you indicate your student knows a language other than English:

  • They are eligible for our language screening
  • They may be eligible for multilingual services

We will email you to explain how it works.

After you qualify

If your student qualifies for services, we will send a letter or email to:

  • Notify you that your  student qualifies for services
  • Explain what type of service they qualify for
  • Outline next steps

Measuring progress

Once a year we assess the progress of each student who gets support. This measures progress and tells us if they are ready to stop receiving services.
