PSAT 8/9

The PSAT 8/9 measures academic progress toward college readiness andis aligned to the SAT.

Overview

The PSAT 8/9 measures skills in these areas:

• English conventions and rhetorical skills
• Reading comprehension
• Math problem-solving

The purpose of the test is to:

• Provide students with an opportunity to establish a baseline for college readiness
• Complement college and career advising
• Indicate which Advanced Placement (AP) courses a student might be ready to take

How it works

• We give it to all students in grade 9 in the fall
• Students take this test online, using an iPad
• It is a timed test that typically takes 2.5 hours
