Bilingual Seal

Bilingual seals measure a student's proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in a world language other than English. 

Overview

In Minnesota, students in grades 10-12 who are proficient in a world language:

• Can receive recognition.
• May be able to get college credit.

World Language Proficiency Certificate 

To earn a certificate, you must demonstrate proficiency in a language other than English. You can do this by taking Minnesota Department of Education (MDE)-approved language proficiency assessment.

Bilingual and Multilingual Seals

To earn a seal, you must:

• Satisfactorily complete all required English Language Arts credits, and
• Demonstrate proficiency in another language by taking a language proficiency assessment approved by MDE.

You may be eligible to receive college credit at Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (MNSCU) if you earn one of the following.

• A Bilingual Seal (English + one other language)
• A Multilingual Seal (English + two or more other languages)

How it works

• WHS offers the  ACTFL Assessment of Performance toward Proficiency in Languages (AAPPL) Measure assessment three times a year.
• WHS offers assessments in several languages.
• Students take this test online, using an iPad

Scores are shared in the assessments section of Skyward Family Access.
