Our district uses many assessment tools to measure our students' progress. We use what we learn to improve how we teach and support all students.

We focus on:
- Progress toward grade-level standards
- Long-term academic growth
Assessment results help teachers and school leaders:
- Understand student progress
- Identify students who may need extra support or enrichment
- Check for signs of dyslexia
- Adjust teaching strategies to improve student learning
- Provide academic progress reports for parents
Types of assessments
Our district uses two main types of assessments: classroom and standardized. Each type helps us support student learning in a different way.
Classroom
Classroom assessments are:
- Designed by Wayzata teachers
- Completed by students as part of their classroom learning
- Aligned with our district curriculum and grade-level standards
They help us understand:
- How well students are mastering essential learning
- The effectiveness of instruction across district classrooms
- Each student's progress
Standardized
Standardized tests are:
- Designed by external organizations
- Completed by students under consistent conditions
- Aligned with state standards
- Required by the state or district
They let us compare the performance of our students to:
- Students in other districts
- Students across Minnesota
- Students across the country
